How a session goes

Every picture on this page is a real screen.

  1. The grown-up settings: Play time, gentle warnings at 1 minute and 10 seconds, then All done, set to 15 minutes
    Before

    You set the time

5 to 30 minutes, or no limit. You also choose which activities show. It all sits behind a PIN.

  2. After a round of Memory, Puddle the duck asks: Want a harder one? The buttons say Yes and Stay here
    During

    Your child sets the pace

Nothing rushes them. When a game gets easy, Puddle asks first. Nothing changes unless your child taps Yes.

  3. The Bubbles activity with a small sign at the top that says One more minute
    Near the end

    "One more minute"

A small sign with one minute left. "Almost done" follows with ten seconds left.

  4. The All done screen: Puddle the duck asleep on the water, above the words All done
    The end

    "All done"

A quiet screen, with Puddle asleep. The same ending every time, so your child learns what to expect.

Tap one. This is the real Memory game, as your child will see it.

Your child picks up to 3. Memory, Sort It, Math Race, Star Catch, Fast Pop, the Letter Board and a book all change to match. Favorite things are never locked, and never have to be earned.

From first taps to Expert

Every game has 20 levels. The early ones suit a child just starting out. The Expert ones are hard enough for teens and adults. The look stays calm at every level.

Gentle by design

Most apps for children are built to hold attention for as long as possible. This one is built to be calm.

  • Slow and quiet. Slow motion, steady color and quiet sound. No sudden noises and no jump cuts.
  • No buzzers, no red X. When a round is lost, the screen says "So close! Again?"
  • Nothing changes without a yes. Puddle asks "Want a harder one?" and waits for your child to tap.
  • The same place every time. Five areas, always in the same order.
  • No speech or reading needed. Buttons show pictures, and every screen can read aloud in a warm, recorded voice.
  • A way to say "I need a break". Three talk buttons: "I need a break", "I need help" and "All done". They are a simple help inside the games, not an AAC system.
  • You set the rules. Activities, time, levels, sound and speed, behind a PIN.

What parents ask first

Short, plain answers. If yours is not here, tell us.

Is it free?

Yes. Every game, book and calm space is free, and there is no sign-up. No card. No trial that turns into a bill. Licenses for schools and clinics, and our printables, help pay for it.

What do you collect about my child?

Nothing. Names, profiles and settings are saved on your own device. No page here has analytics or tracking on it. Read the privacy policy.

How does play end?

Set a play time in the grown-up area. Your child gets a warning with one minute left, another with ten seconds left, then a quiet "All done" screen.

Is more screen time a good idea?

That is your call, and you know your child. Many autistic children use a screen to unwind. Liquid Pond is made to be a calm break with a clear end.

What ages does it suit?

Kids, teens and adults. Every game runs from first taps to Expert, so a young child just starting out and a teen or grown-up who wants a real challenge each land at the right level.

Will my child get bored?

There are 35 activities. Every game has 20 levels, and there are 12 favorite things to switch between. What families tell us helps decide what we build next.

Is this therapy?

No. It is a calm activity. It does not replace therapy, and the talk buttons do not replace an AAC system.

What does it run on?

A web browser, on a tablet, a phone, a laptop or a Chromebook. There is nothing to install. It works offline after the first visit.

What to know before you recommend it

Two ideas we took from research

  • Build around a child's own interests. Dunst, Trivette and Hamby, 2012: a meta-analysis of 24 small studies with 78 autistic children aged 2 to 6 found that building early intervention around a child's own interests increased positive social behavior and reduced challenging behavior. Read the paper
  • Aim for about 7 in 10 right. Shohieb, Doenyas and Elhady, 2022: in a study of a vocabulary game for autistic children, the version that adjusted difficulty so each child won about 7 in 10 times reported about 88% higher engagement than fixed levels. Read the paper

These were small studies. The first looked at teaching and therapy sessions, not games. Neither one tested Liquid Pond. We use them as a starting point, not as proof. The slow pace, the quiet sound, the warnings and asking before any change are our own rules.

About 1 in 31 eight-year-olds in the communities the CDC tracks had been identified as autistic in 2022. In 2020 it was 1 in 36. Source: CDC ADDM Network, 16 sites, 2022 data, published April 2025.

Where it started

Liquid Pond started with one boy. Our founder worked with children after high school and watched an autistic boy replay calming videos to settle himself. Those few quiet minutes helped him, so we began making more of them. The activities grew from the same idea.

Try it yourself first. It takes one minute.
